This blog is about writing song lyrics, first, and then any other form of writing.
What kind of people choose to write song lyrics? I think some of the qualities required are: a strong sense of what is "right and wrong," a sense of rhythm (because the words themselves have a rhythm quite apart from the music that will eventually accompany them), an ability to recognize irony in life's many situations, and, last but not least, an emotion meter that goes off the charts - in both directions. These qualities, while necessary, I believe, to a lyricist, are not qualities most likely to make one a happy and/or temperate human being. We must FEEL - all feelings - to a much greater degree than more "normal" people. We, therefore, are prone to overreacting, to crying jags, and to creating drama from nothing! We are the most likely candidates for: abusing alcohol, for needing mood stabilizers, for marrying and divorcing more than a couple of times, for the psychiatrist's couch.!
